Title
Anglo Saxon equal armed brooch
Description
English: A cast copper alloy Anglo Saxon 'ansate' (handle-like) brooch with the pin missing but otherwise in good condition. The brooch has flattened, slightly flared terminals either side of the bow, which curve upwards slightly. A pair of double incised lines adorn the end of the terminals, while the bow has two sets of double chevrons along its side. The bow has a D-shaped cross section and a sharp central mid-rib. The pin is missing but corrosion around the pin attachment shows that the pin was made of iron.

Ansate brooches occur in France from the seventh century AD but are not found in England until the eighth century. They appear to go out of use in the tenth century.
