Title
Anglo Saxon buckle
Description
English: Incomplete copper alloy Early Early-Medieval buckle plate, missing most of its iron pin.
It is cast in one piece and is roughly triangular in shape, the opening for the pin and strap being rectangular with oval ends. This measures 8.5x4mm. A corroded piece of iron is in place where the pin would have attached through a rivet hole, just behind this area. The buckle narrows to the opposite end (from 13.5mm at the outside edge to 7mm), where the sides angle inwards and there is a little notch at the very end.
On the reverse is a single projecting pierced lug placed vertically.
It is 24mm long, 1.5mm thick and weighs 2.57g. Cf McGregor & Bolick 1993 nos.34.71-72.
