Description |
English: A fragment from a cast copper-alloy cruciform brooch. The headplate and foot terminal of the brooch are missing. The fragment starts with an arched bow with faceted corners and a plain band at the top and bottom. The trapezoidal footplate is decorated with a border of vertical line V-shaped punch marks with an inner line of punched rings. Flanking the footplate are lappets rounded at the corners and stepped at the bottom. The lappets are decorated with a border of punched rings and an incised swirl on the inner, stepped edge. At the junction with the foot , the brooch has a double horizontal band of moulding. The zoomorphic foot is broken just above two prominent pellets eyes. On the back of the footplate is a complete catchplate with a length of 4.9mm and the width is 12.4mm. The surviving length of the brooch is 57.5mm, the maximum width is 39.4mm and the weight is 35.96g. |
