Title |
Anglo Saxon Cruciform Brooch,Roxby cum Risby, Lincs. |
||
Description |
English: Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch, worn fragment from a cast copper-alloy brooch. The head-plate has a trapezoid central panel with sub-rectangular expanded wings. The integral half-round top knob is domed in outline, semi-circular in section with a single moulded collar. Both the side knobs are missing. Behind the head is a single incomplete lug, which is covered with iron corrosion. The brooch is broken at the base of the head-plate and the rest of the brooch is missing. The condition of the fragment is quite poor as some of the original surface has worn away and are patches of iron corrosion on the back of the head-plate and on the front of the top knob. The surviving length is 38.2mm, the width is 43.4mm and the weight is 17.41g. |
