Title
Anglo-Scandinavian bell
Description
English: A copper alloy bell; it is largely complete, although it lacks a clapper. It has a hexagonal body and scalloped/ fluted lower edges which are damaged. The outer surface of the bell is decorated with two rings of stamped ring and dot motifs. The bell has a small rectangular suspension loop with a circular perforation. It is very similar to an example found at 16-22 Coppergate, York and a further example from Freswick Links, Caithness. It is likely to 10th century in date and Anglo-Scandinavian in manufacture.
