Title

Description
English: An incomplete late Early Medieval to Early Medieval copper-alloy stirrup mount, dating to AD 1000 - 1100. Williams Class A, type 11A. It is sub triangular in plan and L shaped in section. It has gently out curving sides, the trefoil terminal is missing due to an old break. The plate is decorated with a moulded lion facing left with a forepaw raised, its head leaning backwards facing the top of the mount, mouth opened. The lion is enclosed by a plain border which joins to the body at the raised fore leg. From the base of the mount the common right-angled flange. The lions tail curls between the legs and over the back, curling around just behind the ear which faces downwards. Above the flange are two rivet holes. The rear of the mount is undecorated. The mount has possibly retained traces of enamel.
