Title
Anglo-Saxon small long brooch
Description
English: Early Medieval copper alloy small long brooch, 52mm long, 23mm wide and 13mm thick (at lug). The brooch is in fair condition with a brown patina and weighs 7.06 grams. Part of the head plate is missing but clearly shows a rectangular form with an incised border and four sub circular cut outs, one in each corner. The bow is quite pronounced and is rather plain, decorated only with a series of three horizontal incised lines at its top and one at its base. The terminal tapers slightly and is decorated with one incised line. It then widens into a raised collar with incised lines and its angle changes, protruding outwards slightly. There is then a further, wider collar which is plain and possibly represents an animals face? below this it flattens again before a break and is decorated here with horiziontal incised lines. The reverse of the head plate contains one semi-circular lug and the traces of a catchplate can be seen behind the terminal.
