Title
Anglo-Saxon copper alloy equal armed brooch
Description
English: A cast copper alloy Anglo-Saxon ansate brooch. Only the spring and pin are missing. The brooch is symmetrical, comprising two elongated flat triangular panels joined in the centre by a slightly arched panel. The panel is decorated with three transverse ribs. Both triangular panels are decorated with two long facets creating diving the panel into three narrower triangles. The central triangle extends slightly on either side. The reverse contains a pierced tab and an incomplete lug.

This brooch is similar to several others on the PAS database, e.g. CAM-DBA386, NMS-95E7F6 and SF-AE0C83. The last of these has been identified as a Thörle Group XII A1 (Domburg type and variants). This group is found in England between c. 720 and c. 900 AD.
