Title
Anglo-Saxon copper alloy cruciform brooch
Description
English: An incomplete early Anglo-Saxon copper alloy cruciform brooch of Martin's Group 2. The brooch has a flat rectangular headplate divided into three smaller panels through the simple scheme of raising the central panel. A half-rounded and collared integral knop is located at the top. The sides of the headplate are damaged and it is unclear, though unlikely, if further knops were present. The bow is arched and faceted at the top and bottom. A tapering panel is located below this. The foot is zoomorphic; the eyes of the beast are large and rounded. The snout is damaged, but was arched in section. A small catchplate extends from the reverse. The tip of the foot is missing. The bow has been bent, and is now broken at the top of the bow.
