Title
Anglo-Saxon copper alloy cruciform brooch
Description
English: An incomplete Anglo-Saxon copper-alloy cruciform brooch, dating to the 6th century. The surviving fragment comes from the lower half of the brooch. The brooch is broken at the top at the base of the bow. Below the bow is a much damaged flat panel, and below this are two transverse collars. The brooch has a zoomorphic foot, comprising two large pellets depicting the eyes, and a domed, elongated snout. An incomplete panel extends to the left of the snouth; that to the right is entirely missing. Fragments of a catchplate survive on the reverse. This area also contains iron corrosion, as does the upper part of the fragment on the front. The surface of the brooch has a brown-red coloured product encrusted over much of it, perhaps sand.
