Anglo-Saxon copper alloy cruciform brooch
Description
English: An Anglo-Saxon copper-alloy cruciform brooch dating to the sixth century. The brooch has a square headplate with a seperate knob attached to the top is almost fully rounded and has iron corrosion on the reverse. The headplate is decorated with a perimeter of three lines and punched half-circles on the inner side. The headplate is divided into three smaller rectangular panels by a central raised panel also decorated with lines and half-circles. The bow is incomplete and faceted, and bears lines and half-circles along the top ridge. The lower part of the brooch is missing. The reverse of the headplate has a corroded iron spring, with what appears to be two turns either side of the central lug.
