Title |
Anglo-Saxon copper alloy cruciform brooch |
||
Description |
English: A complete Anglo-Saxon copper-alloy cruciform brooch. The brooch has a rectangular headplate divided into three smaller rectangular panels, the central one of which is raised. There is a reeled half-rounded knop at the top cast integrally to the headplate. The bow is arched and faceted. The terminal is in the form of a shovel-shaped beasts-head resembling a horse or a hippo. The head has large moulded eyes and transverse ribs above it. There is a pin lug and catchplate on the reverse, and a corroded iron pin still attached. |
