Anglo-Saxon copper alloy Great-Square headed brooch
Description
English: A fragment of an Anglo-Saxon Great-Square Headed brooch. The fragment is one of the side lappets from just below the bow. The lappet is a pointed oval in plan and domed in cross-section. The perimeter of the dome is flat and grooved. The surface has been gilded. The lappet is similar to those found on Hines Group XXIII, such as the example from Ruskington (Hines 1997, pl. 86(a)) and Laceby (ibid., pl. 85(a)).
