Title
Anglo-Saxon buckle
Description
English: Tongue from a buckle. The buckle tongue has a deep arched back which is triangular in section. The tongue is divided into two sections, being seperated by a vertical channel half way along. At the tip, the two top facing sides are decorated with four transverse grooves. At the base the two top facing sides have three transverse grooves next to two vertical grooves set within a trapesoid frame. A small fragment of the shaft that would have attached the tongue to the bar remains at the botton.
