Anglo-Saxon brooch
Description
English: An incomplete copper-alloy early Anglo-Saxon brooch with the foot missing due to an old break, now worn. This brooch is most likely to be of cruciform type as it has a top knob projecting from the centre of the headplate, however, as the foot is missing it is not known if it had the diagonstic horse-head terminal of cruciform brooches. It measures 44.5mm in surviving length.


The head has a rectangular head plate, 21mm in width and 11mm in height. The headplate has a integral top knob which is rounded. The headplate has no delimited central panel and is decorated on its front face with six ring and dot motifs, arranged in two groups of three, either side of the headplate. On the back face of the headplate there is an integral pin loop with the corroded iron remains of the pin within and surrounding it. The bow is facteted and measures 25mm in length and 12mm in width.
