Anglo-Saxon Copper Alloy Brooch
Description
English: Early Medieval copper alloy Small Long Brooch, 44mm long, 35mm wide and 6mm thick. The brooch is in fair condition and weighs 11.31grams. The brooch is complete except for its foot. It has a square head plate which is decorated with two incised lines running across its upper edge and it sits slightly above the three protruding arms. Each arm has a semi-circular shaped lug, each one has a double incised line across its inner straight edge. Behind the head plate are two semi-circular suspension lugs with iron staining in between. The bow is curved and decorated with a band of two incised lines at the top and bottom with a vertical band running down the centre and joining to each horizontal band. The object has broken at the base of this bow, but the reverse contains the upper part of a catch-plate, centrally placed on the footplate.
