Français : Autel de la patrie

Pierre Louis David 1798 Eléments de chêne, sculptés en bas et haut relief, peints, pour le temple décadaire d’Angers Don de Pierre-Jean David, dit David d’Angers

En forme de colonne antique tronquée, l’autel est entouré de guirlandes de fleurs, de feuilles de chêne et de glands maintenues par des rubans noués. Aucun attribut révolutionnaire n’y figure. Placé dans le chœur du temple décadaire (cathédrale Saint-Maurice) d’Angers, il servit au culte de l’Être Suprême, fêtes civiques instituées par Robespierre et La Révellière. Il semble être le seul autel de la Patrie conservé en France.
