John Bell, Principles of Surgery (Edinburgh, 1801). John Bell (1763-1820) dedicated this book to the surgeons of London, particularly mentioning Matthew Bailly and Astley Cooper, amongst others. The tinted drawing by Bell shows aneurysm of the thigh in a shipmaster following a fall, whose leg was amputated four weeks later, and died a few days after the operation.
