| Description |
English: Seventy-five years ago our Canadian soldiers joined the Allied forces in the long-awaited strike against the Nazis in France, fighting in the most horrific conditions and overcoming the greatest odds to secure a beachhead on the European continent and finally began the long end of the Second World War. Today I was proud to lay a wreath in remembrance of the fallen soldiers and commemorate D-Day and the Battle of Normandy with members of the Regina Rifles at the Cenotaph in Victoria Park. We must never forget their sacrifice and continue to honour them by building a world of peace, freedom and justice. Lest we forget. Français : Il y a 75 ans, les soldats canadiens se sont joint aux forces alliées lors du Jour J tant attendu en France et qui sonnerait le glas de l’empire nazi. Combattant dans d’atroces conditions et luttant contre vents et marées, ces soldats réussirent à s’emparer d’une plage sur le continent européen et marquèrent par le fait même le début de la longe fin de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale. Aujourd’hui, je suis fier d’avoir déposé une couronne de fleur en l’honneur des soldats disparus pour commémorer le Jour J et la bataille de Normandie en compagnie des membres des Regina Rifles au cénotaphe du parc Victoria. Nous ne devons jamais oublier leur sacrifice et continuer de l’honorer en bâtissant un monde de paix, de liberté et de justice. N’oublions jamais. |
