Title
David with the head of Goliath
Description
English: Cast in the Victoria and Albert Museum Cast Court.

After bronze original with traces of gilding in Museo Nazionale (Bargello), Florence.

Sculpture photographed in glass box.

English: Verrocchio's bronze [ David ] was reportedly sculpted in response to Donatello's nude version ( www.flickr.com/photos/65986072@N00/4466946672/ ), to be less provocative and homoerotic. David has an androgynous face, akimbo arm, a sculpted leather breastplate with *floral nipple decorations*

In this shot we see that Verrocchio's David is positioned so that he seems to be contemplating his larger-than-life successor after Michelangelo.
