Summary

[edit]
Description

It was built about 12 BC as a tomb for Gaius Cestius, a magistrate and member of one of the four great religious corporations in Rome.

In recent years it has had some restoration and the interior can be visited every second and fourth Saturday of each month.

To the side can be seen part of the old defensive walls of the city, which were constructed between 271 and 275 AD.
