Français : Autres titres : 188, rue Jacques-Cartier Nord, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Description : Suite à la conflagration de 1876, la ville de Saint-Jean désire se doter d'une caserne de pompier permanente afin de prévenir d'autres sinistres. La caserne de pompier est bâtie en 1876 à l'arrière de l'édifice Place du marché selon les plans de l'architecte F. H. Mailhot. Le bâtiment sert au service des incendies mais aussi à la police, car il comporte des cellules aménagées au sous-sol. La toiture et la décoration rattachent ce bâtiment au style Second Empire qui connaît une certaine vogue au Québec pour les édifices institutionnels et publics. La caserne se compose d'un corps de bâtiment de plan rectangulaire, d'une toiture mansardée percée de lucarnes à fronton arrondi ainsi que d'une tour demi hors-œuvre disposée en façade.
