dic artery along the ramus of the ischium, and between thetwo layers of the deep perineal fascia; it then pierces the suspensory ligament ofthe penis, and accompanies the arteria dorsalis penis to the glans, to which it isdistributed. On the penis, this nerve gives off a cutaneous branch, which runsalong the side of the organ; it is joined with branches of the sympathetic, andsupplies the integument of the upper surface and sides of the penis and prepuce,giving a large branch to the corpus cavernosum. In the female, the pudic nerve is distributed to the parts analogous to those inthe male ; its superior division terminating in the clitoris, the inferior in theexternal labia and perineum. The Small Sciatic Nerve supplies the integument of the perineum and backpart of the thigh and leg, and one muscle, the Gluteus maximus. 556 SPINAL NERVES. beneath the Gluteus maximus with the sciatic artery, and at the lower border ofthat muscle passes along the back part of the thigh, beneath the fascia lata, to thelower part of the popliteal region, where it pierces the fascia and becomescutaneous. It then accompanies the external saphenous vein below the middle ofthe leg, its terminal filaments communicating with the external saphenous nerve. The branches of the small sciatic nerve are muscular (inferior gluteal) andcutaneous. The inferior gluteal consist of several large branches given off to the undersurface of the Gluteus maximus, near its lower part. The cutaneous branches consist of two groups, internal and ascending.
