Title
An unfinished post medieval bone fid, dating 16th-17th century.
Description
English: An unfinished post medieval bone fid, dating 16th-17th century. The object is formed from a sheep's radius which has been carved using a saw. The proximal end of the bone has been sliced in half, leaving the hollow centre of the bone. The bone was sliced leaving a distinctive curved edge. The object has not been finished and there is evidence of chisel marks over the surface. Cancellous bone is visible at the rounded tip of the object. The state of the tool would suggest that it unfinished, especially as many of the used examples were personalised with decoration.

A finished example can be found on the PAS database: LON-8DE7F3

Dimensions: length: 127.81 mm; width: 27.17 mm; thickness of tool end: 8.04 mm; weight: 21.87g.
