was commenced; itis one of the best specimens of rich Norman work, and wascompleted in 1148. St. Cross Church, near Winchester, wasfounded in 1136; much of the early part is very plain, part of itis transitional, but the work appears to have been suspendedfor several years, probably for want of funds.
