Title
An incomplete post medieval ivory knife handle dating to c. AD1590.
Description
English: An incomplete post medieval ivory knife handle dating to c. AD1590. The handle would have enclosed the iron tang from a blade which is no longer present. The handle is decorated in a closely spaced zigzag or chevron pattern, terminating in a turned ball finial separated from the main handle by a reel and constricted section. The grip tapers slightly from the constricted section to the base of the handle. The handle is cracked in a way typical for ivory.

A parallel can be found in Brown (2001, fig 36b) which is dated to c. AD1590.

Dimensions: length: 68.47 mm; thickness: 12.42 mm; weight: 13.23g.
