Title
An incomplete cast copper alloy crotal bell, dating to the 17th/ 18th century AD.
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy crotal bell, dating to the 17th/ 18th century AD (length: 34.9mm; diameter: 27.2mm; thickness at handle: 3.7mm; weight: 20.67g). The main body of the bell has a spherical hollow case with the bell still inside, which appears to be made of iron. At the top of the sphere, there is a rectangular suspension loop. Below this loop and to either side at the top of the sphere, there are two holes, one of which has expanded in size due to damage, but the other has a diameter of 5.2mm. Below these holes, a protruding rib runs around the sphere. The bottom of the sphere is undecorated, apart from a narrow slit (width: 2.1mm) with holes at either end (average diameter: 6mm). The artefact is in a worn and corroded condition with a dark green patina and several areas of bronze disease.
