Title |
An incomplete Roman cast copper alloy 'T' shaped brooch probably a Colchester derivative or Dolphin brooch of the 1st century AD (43-120AD). |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete Roman cast copper alloy 'T' shaped brooch probably a Colchester derivative or Dolphin brooch of the 1st century AD (43-120AD). The wings are almost complete being semi-cylindrical in plan with open end caps. The axis bar and spring are almost intact but the pin is lost. The bow head is steeply curved and angular (comma shaped) in profile with a raised ridge running along its length. The base of the bow is broken and the catchplate is missing. The break is relatively fresh and unpatinated suggesting relatively modern damage in the ploughzone. The length is 25mm, width 25mm, thickness 8mm, and the weight is 27g.
