Title
An incomplete Anglo-Saxon copper-alloy buckle.
Description
English: An incomplete Anglo-Saxon, cast, copper-alloy oval outline buckle dating to the Early Medieval period (400-525 AD). The buckle is sub-oval in shape, with a narrowed strap bar and an enlarged tongue rest, which gives the inner outline a distinctive kidney or bean shape; the pin is missing. The sides are faceted and the cross-section is trapezoidal, the cross-section of the strap bar is sub-circular.

The reverse of the buckle is largely flat, with areas that are uneven; the surface tapers towards the inner outline. The object is covered with green and black patina with mounds and pits of corrosion. It measures 35.0 mm in length, 19.5 mm wide, 5.1 mm thick and weighs 12.12 g.

This object is comparable to Marzinzik's (2003) Type 1.8 Buckles with oval outline and bean-shpaed inner outline.
