. Splendid tree-ferns rise thirty or forty feetinto the air, while underneath are smaller varieties and ex-quisite orchids. So dense is the vegetation in some of theseforests that the fierce tropical sun hardly penetrates to theground beneath them and the dense undergrowth constantlydrips with moisture.
