Summary

[edit]
Description An elderly monk pauses to receive alms. The monks always march in descending order- the oldest first, and the youngest and novices right at the end. They do not talk or smile een when receiving alms. Almost 100% of those giving alms were ladies. Ladies have to make sure they drop their offerings into the bowl of the monks and that no part of their body touches the monk, even however lightly, when giving alms. And apart from the monks receiving their daily food supplies, this ritual is also supposed to earn the givers good karma. In Buddhism they call it merit making.
