Title
An cast copper-alloy Roman trumpet brooch
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy trumpet brooch dating from the Roman period.

The head is decorated with a raised curved design and a circular stud situated on the top of the bow, this stud delineates where the bow turns through about 90 degrees to the rear. Below this stud are prominent mouldings consisting of three transverse bands which run around the bow. The middle moulding is much more prominent than the top and bottom. The bow then tapers towards the foot knob and is decorated with vertical mouldings. The central moulding is more prominent than those flanking it. The top of this central rib splits and turns downwards to form the adjacent ribs, these are both zig-zag. The foot of the brooch is defined from the bow by three transverse bands; the foot is flat on the base with a smaller rounded protuberance in the centre.

The reverse of the head is circular with a small broken projection at the top which is likely to be the remains of a head loop. There is an incomplete pierced lug which would have secured the spring and pin mechanism which are now missing. The catchplate is also damaged.
