reaction.) Peyers microscopy. PLATE 64. HYALINE CYLINDERS IN SPERMATORRH(EA—SO-CALLED TES-TIOLE CYLINDERS. 120 CLINICAL MICROSCOPY. HYALINE CYLINDEES IN SPERMATORRHCEA. This has been demonstrated lately. In a large number of casesof spermatorrhoea which I have examined I have observed thisoccurrence four times. Plate 64 represents a specimen from thecase of an unmarried young merchant, who consulted me on ac-count of chronic diarrhoea and loss of flesh. Chemically, I foundnothing abnormal in the urine, but with the microscope I dis-covered a moderate spermatorrhoea with hyaline cylinders, a littlebroader than the renal cylinders. Not knowing of the existence of hyaline cylinders in sperma-torrhoea, I thought I had to discover a disease of the kidneys, andmade the most careful search in that direction. In the case of a tailor, thirty-eight years of age, with spinalirritation and total impotence, these cylinders were quite numerous;they could not be distinguished from renal cylinders.

In connection with, tlie various forms of spermatorrhoea we willdiscuss here, also, shortly the chapter of male sterility, so far as itdoes not result from impotentia coeundi. We distinguish aspermatismus and azoospermia. With the for-mer we count those cases where, with more or less normal produc-tion of semen, its ejaculation during the coitus is prevented. Of this condition we find several forms : 1. Absolute aspermatismus is generally the result of a mechani-cal impediment for the passage of the semen into the urethra.These mechanical impediments owe their origin generally to gon-orrhoea. There is in these cases no possibility of an ejaculation. 2. Relative aspermatismus^ without any ejaculation in coitus;neither by long-continued manipulation (onanism).
