English: An aerial view of Schirmacher Hills. India's second research base Maitri now stands here, 70 km south of the Dakshin Gangotri. Also visible in the image are fresh water lakes which provide water for drinking and cooking to the research stations.
Photo donated by Col Pavan Nair who was then a major in the Indian Army, and led the construction team for the Dakshin Gangotri base station in Antarctica. |
