Description

On the 7th of July 1898 the United States Congress approved the “Joint Resolution to provide for annexing the Hawaiian Islands to the United States”. The Joint Resolution formally passed on 12 July, and Hawaii officially annexed by the United States of America. Although a large portion of the native population opposed the move Hawaii was appropriated into the United States, eventually becoming its 50th State.

The image above is from a copy of the document, “An Act To provide a government for the Territory of Hawaii”. It outlines terms of citizenship and government for Hawaii, designating Honolulu as its capital. The Act was received by Government House on 22 August 1900 from the Secretary of State, London.
