Title
An Oxfordshire Colour Coat Ware sherd.
Description
English: The sherd is an abraded body/base sherd, of possibly Oxfordshire Red Colour Coated Ware. The sherd has a fragment of an integral foot ring, and has high-relief decoration on the exterior surface. The design depicted is not visible but a single annulet is visible. The design is sited almost under the bowl, towards the foot ring.

The exterior and interior surface has a red/brown coloured slip which, on the exterior surface, is quite clumsy and thick. The interior is more smooth.

The fabric is a fine orange colour which is slightly powdery.

The Oxfordshire Red Colour Coated Ware does imitate Samian Ware, which is likely to have occurred here. The sherd could be dated to c. 240AD - 400AD
