Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The historic Yaquina Head Lighthouse (originally called the Cape Foulweather Light at Yaquina Point) is Oregon's tallest, but just one in a string of lighthouses strategically planned along the Pacific Coast to allow mariners to sail the rocky coastline after dark. Standing at 93 feet tall the lighthouse has been a bright beacon of the night since the light was first lit on August 20, 1873.

The lighthouse is open for limited (16 visitors per tour) ranger-led tours. Day of tour passes are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and must be reserved in person at the interpretive center no earlier than 10 a.m. on the day of the tour.

  • July through September 14: Tours take place every day. Reservations can be made up to 90 days in advance – for a limited number of tours. To make an advance reservation phone 1-877-444-6777 or visit www.recreation.gov. Please be aware that a small administrative fee will be required to hold each ticket reservation.
  • Mid-September – June: When weather conditions and staffing levels permit, tours will be offered. Please phone 541-574-3100 for the current schedule.
  • Because Yaquina Head Lighthouse retains its historic stairs, handrails, and balusters, stumbling or slipping between the wide gap in the balusters still poses dangers. For their safety children must be at least 42 inches tall to ascend the lighthouse tower stairs. Additionally, those children over 42 inches tall wishing to climb, must be accompanied by an adult, who may not carry or pick up the child.
After your finished enjoying the natural beauty and rich history of the Yaquina Lighthouse come visit us at the Interpretive Center! Which features exhibits on seabirds and marine life as well as human history from the headland. You can see the wheelhouse of an historic ship, check out a recreated rocky island and its inhabitants, and witness a full-scale replica of the lighthouse lantern. All BLM exhibits and interpretive specialists deliver the rich history of Yaquina Head.
