Title
An Early Medieval small-long brooch
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy small-long brooch dating to the Early Medieval period (c. AD 500-600). The brooch comprises the partial head, bow and foot, and partial catchplate. The pin is missing. The head of the brooch is flat and shows the remains of two projections to the left and above, which may have once been a cruciform design. On the reverse of the head are two projections which would have accommodated the pin mechanism. The bow extends from the head at the lower end, forming a slight curve outwards. At either end of the bow is a rectangular moulding. The foot extends from the lower moulding below the bow. Just above the foot terminal is a long rectangular collar. The foot has been bent upwards out of shape. On the reverse of the foot is the partial catchplate. The brooch has a mid- to light green patina.

The overall dimensions are as follows: 56.33mm in length, 17.03mm in width, 8.38mm in thickness and 10.85g in weight.
