ite common, and may originate fromthe modified sebaceous glands (Tysons glands) behind the corona, as well asfrom those of the skin, so that they are found in all parts of the organ. Theyare sometimes multiple, and are in that case small, but the single cysts notinfrequently attain the size of a hens egg, forming a serious obstacle to coition, especially when they are situated in the prepuce, which is their usual location.Solid tumors have also been known to grow from the modified sebaceousglands, forming adenomata. All of these benign tumors should be removedby operation, the sac of the cysts being carefully dissected out in order toprevent a return. The very numerous small cysts, however, may be simplyincised, and their lining destroyed by thorough cauterization. Papillomata are to be found anywhere on the skin or mucous membranes, but are most common on the inner side of the foreskin near its reflection uponthe glans. They occasionally attain great size (Fig. 38), and have been known

Underthe general name of papilloma we include the so-called venereal wart, as itdiffers in nothing from the ordinary forms, and its only connection withvenereal diseases is the fact that the latter are apt to cause irritant discharges, which are a well-recognized cause of the growth of warts in general. Anyirritant discharge or secretion, especially if covered and protected from the airby a long foreskin, will cause the growth of papillomata, and this fact explainstheir frequent appearance behind the corona. There are some instanceson record of contagion of these warts from one sex to the other, but probablythis is merely due to a transfer of the irritating material, with a similarity inhabits of neglect
