English: In collection of Amsterdam, Allard Pierson museum, inventory number 15002.
I took this photo on 2019-05-19. Description from museum follows. Lekyth (oil flask) depicting a mother holding up her little boy who reaches out to her. In the culture that created this vase, producing a male heir is the most important purpose in the life of a woman. In the Early Classical Period (48-450 BC), images on pottery and terracottas reveal a shift. Instead of masculine themes as battles and drinking parties, feminine topics emerge that emphasize the significance of private life. Pottery, Athens (Greece), c. 460 BC (inv. Chr. (inv. 15002) |
