Title
Ampulla surviving side
Description
English: Incomplete Medieval lead ampulla. One side of the flask is almost complete. The bottom is circular in plan and extends into a flared neck. One handle survives, whilst the other is now missing. This side is badly worn and it is hard to discern a decorative design on the circular face, though there is a partially surviving zigzag pattern running from below the handle, around the edge of the circular section, which would have presumably carried on around to the other handle. The reverse of the flask is missing its neck, so that only the bottom, circular portion survives, again this side is badly worn. The zigzag pattern also partially survives in mirror image to the other side. There is some sort of ‘hatched’ design within a possible shield shape on the circular portion, but it is too worn to say for certain. The surviving length of the ampulla is 51.3mm, the diameter of the circular bottom section is 30.38mm and the width of the neck is 28.36mm at the mouth and 23.6mm where it begins from the circular body. It weighs 45.61 grammes.
