Ammonium biurate crystals consist primarily of ammonium hydrogen urate and are formed due to the breakdown of uric acid in the urine.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The presence of ammonium biurate crystals in urine microscopy is a notable finding. Ammonium biurate crystals, also known as amorphous urates, are crystalline deposits that can form in the urine. These crystals are typically yellow or brown and have a characteristic "thorny apple" or "coffin lid" appearance under a microscope. The presence of ammonium biurate crystals in urine is often associated with specific medical conditions or dietary factors. While their presence alone doesn't necessarily indicate a particular disease, it can provide clues to an underlying issue. Common conditions and factors associated with ammonium biurate crystals include:- Uric Acid Stones- Ammonium biurate crystals can contribute to the formation of uric acid kidney stones if they accumulate and grow in the urinary tract. Dehydration- Concentrated urine due to dehydration can promote the formation of urate crystals, including ammonium biurate crystals. Gout-Gout is a condition characterized by elevated levels of uric acid in the blood, leading to the formation of urate crystals in joints. In some cases, urate crystals can also appear in the urine. Certain Medications- Some medications, such as diuretics or chemotherapy drugs, can increase the risk of urate crystal formation.
