Double the volume of Notre Dame in Paris, Our Lady of Amiens was built swiftly between 1220 and 1270 in the Gothic style. Architect / Master Builder Robert de Luzarches, is credited with standardizing the stone sizes on this project to realize unprecedented efficiency in the construction of Gothic cathedrals. Subsequent architects were Thomas de Cormont and his son Renaud. Suffering damage and vandalism during the French Revolution, many phases of restoration have been carried out, most notably by architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, who worked on the restoration from 1849 to 1874. The cathedral is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
