bone, the occipi-tal and temporal bones being rarelyinvolved: the bones of the face, par-ticularly the nasal bones: the longbones, those of the leg and forearmbeing attacked more often than thebones of the thigh or upper arm; finally,the clavicle, the sternum, and the ribs.The vertebrae, the bones of the pelvis,and the other bones in general arerarely affected. Hereditary Syphilis. In hereditary syphilis the bonesare relatively more frequently involvedthan in any stage of acquired syphilis.In the tertiary stage the disease seemsto affect particularly the deeper tis-sues and organs, and it naturallyfollows from this that the boneswould be the chief objects of attackin the hereditary form, for the dis-ease has arrived at what corresponds to the tertiary stage in the infantwhen he is born. It is well known that the growing bones of a very youngchild are often the site of various osseous diseases. This is due to thegrowth of the bone and to the consequent immaturity and lack of resistance
