egister forJuly. p. Sr—95. 244 3lassachusetts Medical Papers, to be much better known. Errors in diet, exposure tosudden changes of temperature or to damp air, fatigue, watching, anxiety of mind, &c. are among the numbermentioned. To the report is subjoined the histoiy of sixteen casesof the spotted fever, with a detail of the morbid appear-ances of six cases ascertained by dissection. These areextremely interesting and greatly enhance the value ofthe publication. The second and concluding article of the present num-ber is a dissertation on the progress of medical science,in the commonwealth of Massachusetts, by Joseph Bart-letU The circumstantial account which is here given ofthe increase of medical knowledge in the state of Massa-chusetts will be perused with much pleasure by every onewho feels an interest in the prosperity of our literary andscientific institutions. We sincerely hope that this ex-ample set by Dr. Bartlett may be followed in this andother states of the union. /
