A German bird cage are in America, but in many orientalcountries as well as in certain parts ofEurope they are made for certain in-sects, the singing of which is regardedas musical. The people of the Dragon-fly Islands value the music of many in-sects, particularly the Kirigirisu, whichhas been the theme of many poems andwhich is considered the prophet of frostas well as of separation. Many of theinsect cages from Japan and China, andsometimes those from India are set ormounted upon tiny wooden stands whichsomewhat resemble those often used aspedestals for vases or jars of orientalporcelain. Where insect cages are of atall and slender shape, they have beendesigned for high-leaping insects—highvaulters in the sunny grass when out ofdoors. If a collection represents the fruit ofmuch journeying and travels into strangeplaces, such is particularly true of anassortment of such household ob-jects as these cages of birds.
