A STUDY OF THE ^GENERAL ARRANGEMENT OF BEECH .GROVE SHOPS. THE C. C. C. & St. L. Ry. (Bic-Four). The arrangement of the Beech Grove shops of the Big-Fouris of special interest because, like the East Moline shops of theRock Island System, there were no restrictions as to the shapeand arrangement of the buildings. Every detail was carefullystudied out and it may therefore be regarded as an ideal layoutfor the conditions for which it is intended. The buildings areall arranged so that they may be considerably enlarged in thefuture. Indianapolis is the central and most important point of heBig-Four system; six divisions radiate from it. Beech Groveis about six miles from Indianapolis on the Chicago division.The new shops replace those at Brightwood, also near India-napolis, but which were built a number of years ago and werenot adapted for handling the new and larger power which hascome into use since that time.
