n alternate repair tracks. Cars inthis way will pass through the shop on certain tracks, ac-cording to the nature of their repairs, whether heavy, light ormedium. An overhead trolley will carry all scrap parts fromthe rear end of the shop to the scrap platform, also the wheelsto the wheel shop to be pressed off. Finished wheels andsupplies, such as brasses and springs from the supplj house, aretaken in at the upper end of the repair shop, while those forthe passenger car shop will be taken in car-load lots to thatbuilding. The lumber yard, dry kiln and planing mill areplaced in line, so that the finished material will pass out atthe rear end of the mill to the repair shop or to the passengercar shop. The triangular shapeof the grounds, with the tracks on the main line on one side, those of the Newark division on the second, and Newark Bayon the third side, added considerably to the problems of locat-ing the tracks and buildings in such a way that every part ofthe shopyard would be in easy communication with everyother part. By the use of a transfer table this plan has beensuccessfully carried out. As empty cars will naturally collect at this junction, thoseneeding repairs will be switched into a yard for crippled cars, not shown, in the upper part of the grounds. The tracks forthis storage yard are built on the gravity principle and finallyconverge into a single track, which again branches out intoa series of tracks
