, a meal forsix people was prepared in variousways by the students. The meal con-sisted of cream of tomato soup, breadsticks, pot roast, brown potatoes, hotrolls, buttered beans, jelly, cookiesand gelatine with whipped cream fordessert, and coffee. Cooking these foods by electricity(in an insulated stove) at ten centsper kilowatt hour cost 32 cents; bygas at one dollar per thousand cubicfeet, with noninsulated stove, 8 cents;by gas, with an insulated stove, 5 cents;and by kerosene at ten cents per gallonit cost 3 cents. It is admitted that wood up to $8a cord would be slightly cheaper thankerosene. A practical step toward solving thefuel problem was the appearance of theinsulated oven. These ovens servesomewhat the same purpose as thefireless cooker, in conserving and uti-lizing the heat that otherwise wouldpass off and be wasted.
