Be-tween stone gateposts, one enters a paththat leads to a veranda, which out-stretches itself across the entire front ofthe house and ends in a rustic pergolacovered with leafy vines which do notobstruct the magnificent views. Thename of the tea-house is carried outthrough owls placed everywhere; withoutstretched wings they perch on stands,swinging to catch the passing breeze, andlook down on you from mantel and walland also form the feature of the ironandirons. The furniture used on the veranda, isof old hickory, while, inside, green isshown; the color-scheme being greenand gray. The tea-room itself, occupies the en-tire front of the house, while a smallroom at the rear allows for specialguests, and chambers have been intro-duced above to accommodate the be-lated traveler. THE PURITAN TEA-ROOM THE COMING OF THE TEA-HOUSE 15 ures the fireplace, shows a merry rip-pHng stream that flows through countrylands, with its setting of forest trees andits mountainous background. The win-dows are grouped to allow for morelight, small-paned, and hung with daintylittle chintz curtains that might havecome out of great grandmothers dowerchest. The flowers are an importantpart of the table-setting and are changedevery day. At the rear of the tea-roomis a circulating library, which is muchpatronized. A pleasant feature of this tea-house isthe specialty of making it pleasant forlittle ones.
